An Open Letter to Chinese Government Quotes Xi Jinping's Own Words

Students from Shandong University wrote an open letter to the Chinese government calling for a credible and transparent investigation into the inhuman sufferings of the mother of 8 children who was found to be chained in an unheated shed without door on January 28. She said her original name was Li Ying. She bears a strong resemblance to a young girl who was reported missing over 20 years in Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. The girl's late father, Li Da Zhong, was a vetran of the Chinese army who had the rank of a captain when discharged.

Different from other open letters by students of Beijing University, Qinghua and other universities, the students from Shandong University quoted Xi Jinping's own words. This letter was the first to point out that the Chinese government controlled China Internet Network Information Center (or CNNIC) had censored other open letters penned by students of other universities. In China, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) rules over everything else, including CNNIC, which is a Non-profit in name.

Below is the translated letter by students from Shandong University.

To the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and the State Council,

The heinous abduction and cruel treatment of women in Xuzhou, China has evolved into an event known to the entire society.

This event -

blackens the image of an affluent society.

violates China's record of human rights record.

is a contempt for a country under the rule of law.

utterly humiliates the country and nation

is a barbarian act against mankind's ethics and morality.

Facing those who are suffering while being chained, it is an appropriate time for the party in power to demonstrate who the party serves. It is aslo a good time to educate the carders and the people. However, the inappropriate measures taken by the local officials in the Feng County and Xuzhou City have arisen even bigger waves of discontent, leading to a more serious current state.

Internet Information Management Bureau (IIMB) censored all the earlier open letters by students from Beijing University, Zhejiang University, Sichuan University and others that requested the central government to look into this matter. The action of IIMB has actually worsened the relationship between the government and the people. It brings shame upon the party and the country.

It seriously deviates and offends the speech and proposal made by Chairman Xi Jinping at the UN's convention to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the World's Women Convention in Beijing. Xi Jinping proposed 'building a world where women are not discriminated against'.

The undersigned are students of Shandong University from all over the worlds. We make the strongest call for a thorough investigation into this serious event.

To eradicate the malignant tumor of abduction of women and children, we are calling for the People's National Congress and the State Council to immediately act, to urgently instruct officials at every level of government to investigate and punish those who committed malfeasance or crime. Doing so will not disappoint the people of all China and all patriotic Chinese around the world.
