Chinese ambassador to Washington, D.C. Qin Gang published his article about China's official stand over Russian invasion of Ukraine on Chinese social media. It is the Chinese version of Qin Gang's earlier publication on the Washington Post. Qin Gang tried to explain Xi's policy of being 'neutral' in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. In the Response Comment section, the majority of comments posted by Chinese citizens were critical of the hypocricy of the Chinese government's attitude toward the Russian invasion. 


A Chinese citizen's comment drew over 6,230 Likes. The comment reads: 


'To see whose side your butt sits on, just look at your domestic media control. Those supporting Russia fly through 
no matter what. Those supporting Ukraine are taken down fast. 


Your strategy of being friends with the Russians is not made only these days. It was formulated in Qin Lin Conference over a 
year ago. 


Facing iron-clad evidence of Russian invasion of Ukraine, you played the game of abstention.  Are you blind or in your heart there is simply no justice? You have to pay this debt someday. Do not complain of being wronged then.'



Another critical comment received 4,709 likes. It reads: 

'Every time you support a body who is close to death, you draw public wrath and become abandoned by the whole world. Are you sent by God to torture us Chinese? '


There are numerous other comments similar to this one, critical of Ambassador Qin Gang's article. He later closed the Comment section of his post on Chinese social media. 


A Chinese tech professional is in Ukraine. He reported Russian bombing of Odesa, a city on the shore of Black Sea. He commented Ukrainians' friendliness toward him, and their brave resistance while reporting to his parents in Beijing that he is safe.

For these expressions, which were incompatible with the Chinese Communist Party's controlled message favoring the Russian invasion, his Chinese social media account was shut down. His earlier posts were wiped out.
